Our Mission
The purpose and of the Wakullah Street Community Garden:
Promote socially just, healthy and sustainable urban living in the Wakullah-Dale Street neighborhood of Boston's Roxbury community;
Provide positive learning and community-building experiences to community members of all ages;
Educate Wakullah Street community members and the public at large about the multiple benefits of shared, functional and aesthetically pleasing outdoor space;
Educate Wakullah Street community members and the public at large about the personal and community benefits of collaborative visioning and labor;
Educate Wakullah Street community members on the processes, methods and benefits of cultivating fresh vegetables, fruit, herbs and other plants for their own consumption and enjoyment;
Encourage and enable Wakullah Street community members to develop and maintain healthy eatings habits centered around fresh vegetables, fruit and plants grown in their own local soil and through their own efforts;
Provide positive learning and community-building experiences to community members of all ages;
Educate people about the native and non-native plant species and varieties that grow within the Wakullah Street Community Garden;
Enabling them in the future to understand the correct methods to identify and remove the many weeds that attempt to grow. Also extending this knowledge outside of the garden to the many weeds that are regarded as trees and plants within the city of Boston and within people’s homes;
